Background
BACKGROUND
Great things often come from small beginnings, so is EcoClimate Foundation. The idea of this Foundation started during teachings of final-year students on the course; Environmental Pollution (Biol 416) by the MD/Founder. This course elucidates anthropogenic activates being directly responsible for climate change. Thus, the need to create awareness and promote activities that minimize pollution, thereby ensuring that humans live in harmony with nature. This inspired the MD to solicit board of Trustees’ support to start an NGO aimed at ensuring sustainable development through eco-friendly life systems that mitigate the effects of climate change. Our environment plays a vital key in ensuring the continuity of our existence hence the need to form an Organization with a mandate of environmental conservation and preservation.
Informally, in 2007 during National Tree Planting, the MD led Biol 416 graduating class to donate 5,000 trees (3,000 to Ahmadu Bello University and 2,000 to former Federal College of Chemical and Leather Technology [CHELTECH] but currently called Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) as their own contribution towards reducing deforestation and building a cleaner environment. Our Organization also carried out several voluntary pollution and climate change awareness campaigns among students and staff.
In 2020, the Foundation was registered with Nigerian Cooperate Affairs Commission. It has an experienced 5-member Board of trustee while activities of the foundation are implemented by the executive members, headed by the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer.
